Lyrics

Standing in the cold

Waiting on a midnight train

No one on the road

The city’s not awake

Doing something bold

It can be a lonely place

But I gotta go

It’s written in my veins

If you search my soul

Oh with all your heart

You’re gonna see it

You’re gonna see it

And if you knock my soul

Oh with all your strength

You’re gonna find it

You’re gonna find that

You can walk through the fire

You can walk through the fire

When it’s down to the wire

You can walk through the fire

Finally getting on

I can feel the engines turn

Moving through dark

And everything is blurred

I can’t see the track

I can’t see the turns ahead

But I’m not looking back

It’s ringing in my chest

If you search my soul

Oh with all your heart

You’re gonna see it

You’re gonna see it

And if you knock my soul

With all your strength

You’re gonna find it

You’re gonna find that

You can walk through the fire

You can walk through the fire

When it’s down to the wire

You can walk through the fire

You can walk through the fire

Oh you can walk through the fire

You can walk through the fire

When you swear it’s hopeless

When you’ve lost your way

When you breathe the smoke in

And you feel it sting

When you swear it’s hopeless

When you’ve lost your way

When you breathe the smoke in

If you search my soul

With all your heart

You’re gonna see it

You’re gonna see it

And if you knock my soul

Oh with all your strength

You’re gonna find it

You’re gonna find it

I wrote this song with Aaron Kellim up in the Big Bear mountains on the last day of a writing trip, and it was a culmination of both the music we made that week, and the journey we’ve each been on in our lives this year. I tracked these background vocals first and then all the lead vocals to those before ever playing an instrument on it – just the way we wrote it – so it was a fun and different experience along the way. Hope you enjoy it, playlist it, and let me know what you think!
